Recycling Copper Scrap in Gladstone

Copper is one of the most sought-after scrap metals in Gladstone, and it’s easy to see why. From old electrical wiring and plumbing offcuts to air conditioning units and industrial equipment, copper finds its way into sheds, workshops, and worksites across the region. If you’ve got some lying around, why let it gather dust when you could turn it into cash?

At Action Metal Recyclers in Gladstone, we’ve been helping locals turn their scrap copper into money for over 50 years. Our team at 3 South Trees Drive makes the whole process simple, fast, and rewarding.

Why Copper Is Worth Recycling

Copper is one of the most valuable metals you can recycle, and for good reason. It has an infinite recyclable life, meaning it can be melted down and reused again and again without losing its quality. From electrical wiring to plumbing, motors to computers, copper is essential in countless industries. That’s why recyclers like us are always keen to buy it.

The price you’ll get for your copper depends on a few factors, including the current rates on the International Metal Exchange and, importantly, the grade of your scrap. The cleaner the copper, the higher the value.

Understanding Copper Grades

Here’s a quick rundown of the main grades of copper we buy:

  • Copper Bright and Shiny (Millberry) is the top-tier stuff. We’re talking bare, uncoated wire or cable that’s at least 1.2mm thick, free from insulation, paint, and tarnishing. This grade fetches the highest prices.
  • Copper Bright (Candy or #1 Copper) includes clean copper tubing, sheet, and hair wire under 1.2mm. It should be unalloyed and free of fittings, solder, and insulation. Most copper pipes fall into this category once fittings are removed.
  • Copper Burnt (Birchcliff or #2 Copper) has a dirtier appearance and may include solder, paint, or coatings. It still needs to contain at least 94-96% copper.
  • Copper Insulated Wire is copper wire still wrapped in plastic or rubber insulation. While you don’t need to strip it, the wire inside should resemble bright and shiny copper.

We also buy electric motors and fridge compressors, which contain valuable copper windings inside.
